"For We Have Heard" reviewed by John Barron of The Jazz Word
“Steven Lugerner composes and performs on a variety of woodwind instruments with his exploratory quartet sans bass on For We Have Heard. Along with the subdued and lyrical trumpet of Darren Johnston, the open-mindedness of pianist Myra Melford and the purposeful drumming of Matt Wilson, Lugerner creates an instrumental, half-composed/half-improvised interpretation of the Book of Joshua. There isn’t anything overtly religious about the music, only sparse, well-plotted themes, solos void of cliche and sentimentality and coarse textures that are intriguing throughout.” - John Barron (The Jazz Word)
