Compositions based on a numeric approach to biblical text, Lugerner presents music as challenging to hear as it must’ve been to arrange. While the quartet’s previous recording wasn’t comprised of a bunch of pretty songs by any means, their newest increases that distance by far. Acerbic at times, distantly warm at others, this is music unafraid to challenge. Active music, but with a heavy presence.”
